If you do not have a goal in mind, you fight aimlessly and reactively; effectively allowing your opponent to make your battle decisions for you. Having a purpose makes you strong, and allows you to see more clearly through the fog of war. To succeed in every battle then, you need a driving force: a philosophy.
It is equally important, however, to have a strong fighting technique. Without martial skills, you will be defeated by seasoned warriors. Even those without a philosophy.
